FUNDRAISING 101
Let the fun(draising) begin!
We've put together a list of tips and tricks to help you get started on your fundraising journey. Remember - every dollar counts towards building safer futures!
1. Tell your community why you’re walking, and what the event means to you
Let your community know why you're walking and what the event means to you. Sharing your personal connection to the cause will give your friends and family a strong reason to join the movement and support you and the cause.
2. SET AN AMBITIOUS BUT ACHIEVABLE TARGET
It's all about balance.
3. MAKE THE FIRST DONATION A GOOD ONE
4. Share your page and tell people how you will complete the walk
If spamming your social networks isn't your style, you can email, text or even call your friends and family to let them know why you're walking and how they can help.
5. ASK FOR A SPECIFIC AMOUNT
If you ask five people to donate $50, that's $250 that will build safer futures for women and children - how good is that!
Share our social media tiles here to ask for a specific amount and explain how that donation helps.
6. ENCOURAGE NON-FINANCIAL SUPPORT
7. PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF
Keep your foot on the pedal by reminding your community why you're walking and updating them as you get closer to your goal.
8. SHARE WITH YOUR POTENTIAL DONORS WHAT’S IN IT FOR THEM
People don't tend to part with their pennies easily, so explain what's in it for your donors. Perks of donating could include (but are not limited to):
- Helping to end gender-based violence;
- Supporting women and children in crisis;
- Social media shout-outs for your donors; and
- Building a future free from violence for all.
Don't forget to mention that all donations of $2 or more are tax deductible - and who doesn't love a tax write off!
9. REMEMBER TO SAY THANK YOU!
Be sure to thank people who have donated and make them feel good about what they’ve given. After all, manners matter!
Each contribution (no matter the size) counts, and gets you closer to your goal. Try getting creative with your gratitude - social media shout outs, thank you videos or even a personalised email are great ways to show your community you appreciate their generosity.
