Walk for change
I will be walking on Sunday, May 4th, to call for an end to violence against women and children—a cause that is deeply personal to me.
According to the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, in 2024, only 60% of domestic violence cases classified as "common assault" made it to a hearing. Of which, 29.6% received an unsupervised bond, and only 7.2% resulted in a prison sentence. Of those sentenced, half were released from custody within 4.5 months.
Let that sink in.
I’m tired of the headlines that read “woman killed.”
I’m tired of the need to educate men
I’m tired of the misogyny that seems to permeate our society
I’m raging
We need stronger penalties for domestic and gender-based violence. We need men to step up and lead the charge, working alongside policy and lawmakers to enact actual change.
We need women to feel safe and supported by the judicial system
We need so much more
