I’m walking on 4 May to call for an end to violence against women & children!
2 in 5 women (39%) have experienced violence since the age of 15. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021-22 - Personal Safety, Australia)
1 in 4 women (27%) has experienced violence, emotional abuse, or economic abuse by a cohabitating partner since the age of 15.
In addition to physical and sexual violence, women from migrant and refugee backgrounds are particularly vulnerable to financial abuse, reproductive coercion and immigration related violence, for example withholding documents, threats of visa cancellations or deportation.
It gets worse...on average, one woman is killed every nine days by a current or former partner.
There are more stats on https://www.ourwatch.org.au/quick-facts so im doing what I can...I’m walking to call for an end to violence against women and children (WAGEC).
Last year domestic violence was declared a national crisis. It’s time we demanded more and supported the women and children affected by violence in our community.
🎽 Walk 5km or run 10km to call for an end to violence against women and children.
📍 When & Where: Sunday May 4 | Centennial Park, Sydney (Gadigal)
Please donate to my walk today! Every penny and cent counts...dollars are good too!
Every night, WAGEC supports 200 women and children facing violence to find safety and a good night’s rest.
By donating today, you could help a woman, and her children escape violence and begin to rebuild after trauma.
Thank you in advance! :)
